What is pressotherapy?

Pressotherapy is a detoxification procedure that is used for both medical and cosmetic purposes. The procedure uses a special computerized machine that uses compressed air to stimulate the circulatory and lymphatic systems.

Lymphatic drainage, as pressotherapy is also called, has beneficial effects on various parts of the body. It improves blood circulation, stimulates the lymphatic system, reduces cellulite and excess fluid retention, and improves the overall appearance of the skin.

How does pressotherapy work?

This procedure is performed using a specialized pressotherapy machine, to which special clothing is attached and worn during the session.

The procedure begins with putting on special clothing – special boots that are put on and completely cover the lower limbs.

Once the garment is put on, it is connected to a pressotherapy device that controls the pressure and sequence of compressions.

During the session, the chambers in the garment are inflated by compressed air supplied by the device, exerting gentle pressure on the treated areas. This encourages the movement of fluids to the veins and lymphatic vessels.

Once the pressure is released, the chambers in the garment (the cuffs) deflate, allowing the tissues to relax and facilitate the circulation of freshly oxygenated blood back to the treated area.

This consistent compression mimics the natural movement of substances along the lymphatic vessels, encouraging the flow of lymphatic fluid and facilitating the drainage of accumulated toxins and waste products from the body.

Duration of the procedure

Typically, a pressotherapy session lasts up to 30 minutes, and the time can be reduced or increased slightly depending on the client’s goals and condition.

During the procedure, our guests usually sit comfortably and relax, listen to music or read. This way, time passes unnoticed, and after the procedure is completed, they feel light, rested and charged with new energy.

Benefits of lymphatic drainage

Pressotherapy offers a wide range of benefits that contribute to overall health and well-being.

Let’s look at some of the main benefits of the procedure:

  • Improves circulation: One of the main benefits of pressotherapy is its ability to improve blood circulation. By applying gentle pressure to the soft tissues of the treated areas, pressotherapy promotes blood circulation, which also leads to better oxygen saturation of both the treated areas and the entire body.
  • Reduces Cellulite: Another very important benefit of this procedure is that it helps reduce the appearance of cellulite and fat deposits. The pressure exerted by the lymphatic drainage machine helps break down fat deposits, resulting in smoother and firmer skin.
  • Reduces swelling and fluid retention: The consistent compression action that the machine exerts on the treatment areas helps to mobilize excess fluids, facilitating their drainage from the lymphatic system.
  • Relaxation and stress reduction: In addition to all the physiological benefits for the body, pressotherapy promotes relaxation, creating a sensation similar to a gentle, soothing massage. This in turn helps reduce accumulated stress and tension and promotes a sense of calm and good mood.

Contraindications

Despite its many benefits, this procedure is not recommended for people suffering from thrombosis and thrombophlebitis, skin infections and wounds, some types of heart disease.

The procedure is also not recommended during pregnancy or in cases where there is an internal infection in the area to be treated.

Pressotherapy is a detoxifying procedure that gives results after the first procedure.

There is no strictly defined number of sessions or frequency that must be followed, as the number and frequency of procedures are determined both according to the individual needs and requirements of the client and by the specialist performing the procedure itself.

However, if we need to establish some framework, the majority of pressotherapy specialists recommend doing a full course (between 9 and 15 procedures).

The procedure is completely safe and there are no serious side effects. There may be a brief increase in urination, which is completely normal given the fact that lymphatic drainage helps to flush out toxins accumulated in the body.
