What is exfoliation?

Exfoliation is a process that removes dead cells from the surface of the skin, which helps to renew the skin layer.

This can improve the texture of your skin, help even out the complexion, stimulate microcirculation, and accelerate epidermal regeneration mechanisms.

There are many ways to exfoliate, but the main ones are two:

  • Mechanical exfoliation: This type of exfoliation removes dead skin cells by physically treating the skin. Exfoliating products with granulated sugar particles, pink sand, sea salt, microbeads and special tools such as sponges, brushes or exfoliating gloves are used.
  • Chemical exfoliation: Chemical exfoliation, also called chemical peeling, consists of applying exfoliants in the form of a cream, which are left to act on the face or body for a certain period of time. This allows the enzymes to work and gently eliminate dead cells. This type of exfoliation usually uses fruit enzymes, beta-hydroxy acids (salicylic acid), alpha-hydroxy acids (ANA) and others.

Exfoliation can be done both on the face and on the body, and the end result of this ritual is that after the procedure you will have smoother, softer, more elastic, fresh and glowing skin.та ще имате по-гладка, мека, еластична, свежа и бляскава кожа.

  • Exotic Island: This type of exfoliation uses vanilla and tiara scented scrubs combined with finely grated coconut shells, white sand from exotic Bora Bora, combined with nourishing oils.
  • Pink sand: This exfoliation is applied to the entire body. It uses fine pink sand and white quartz, which make the skin of the body smooth, soft and radiant.
  • Arctic wonder: Exfoliants with sea crystals and cryo extract of Antarctic algae are used, with stimulating and energizing properties that open pores and refresh every millimeter of the skin.

How does the procedure go?

Every single exfoliation procedure at the Lucky Bansko spa center begins with determining the skin type.

These initial clarifications are very important, as not every type of exfoliation is suitable for every type of skin:

  • If your skin is sensitive, you should avoid highly abrasive scrubs. Gentle chemical exfoliants are right for you.
  • If you have acne-prone skin, you should also avoid mechanical exfoliation, as it can stimulate sebum production and hence breakouts.
  • Combination to oily skin needs deep pore cleansing to prevent blackheads. If you have this type of skin, it is suitable for you to use mechanical exfoliation with medium to fine particle exfoliants.
  • In the event that you have mature skin, it is also advisable to avoid highly abrasive types of scrubs that can damage the epidermis, which thins over time.

After our specialists have determined your skin type, the procedure begins with a basic cleansing of the face.

Mechanical exfoliation

In mechanical exfoliation, the exfoliant is applied to a slightly damp face (or body), then the skin is scrubbed using a sponge, brush or exfoliating glove in gentle, circular motions.

Exfoliation ends after removing dead skin cells, rinsing the face with lukewarm water and applying a moisturizing product.

Chemical exfoliation

In chemical exfoliation (peeling), the exfoliating product is applied to the skin of the face or body and left to work for a certain period of time, after which it is removed.

During peeling, we use modern equipment, which removes dead cells quickly, efficiently and gently.

The procedure ends with cleansing the skin with cool water and hydrating it with a suitable moisturizing product.

Duration of procedure

The exfoliation process takes about 25 minutes.

This time is quite enough to remove all the dead cells and greet you with a healthier and more radiant skin and complexion.

Benefits of exfoliation

This procedure has many benefits for the skin and can play an important role in maintaining its health and beauty.

Here are some of the main benefits of exfoliation:

  • Removes dead skin cells: One of the main reasons to exfoliate is that the procedure removes dead skin cells. In addition, the procedure can help improve the appearance of the skin as it helps even out the complexion and improves skin texture.
  • Unclogs pores: The exfoliation process unclogs pores, making it easier to keep them clean, free of dirt and oil build-up.
  • Prevents breakouts and reduces acne: If you have frequent breakouts or suffer from a mild form of acne, exfoliation can prevent breakouts. This is possible because the very process of exfoliation leads to the removal of dead cells, which are the main culprits of clogging pores and the appearance of pimples.
  • Improves circulation and lymphatic drainage: During the process, lymphatic drainage is stimulated for internal cleansing of the epidermis. Additionally, exfoliation stimulates blood circulation, which in turn improves cell health to reveal glowing and radiant skin.
  • Stimulates collagen production: Regular exfoliation stimulates collagen production and helps reduce wrinkles and fine lines in mature skin.

To enjoy these benefits for your skin, you just need to book your appointment and let our professionals take care of the rest.
